Make My Life A Prayer To You – Keith Green

There were a few songs I could’ve chosen this week, all from Keith Green’s album No Compromise (1978). But the words from Make My Life A Prayer To You, just have a little bit more meaning in my life currently.

I’ve only recently started listening to Keith Green, and I am so disappointed that I didn’t do it sooner. I’ve found many incredible songs that are lyric driven mixed with unique vocal talent. This song stands out to me now because, as I said a few weeks ago, I want to pray more often. And now I’m learning that I need to pray. It has very quickly gone from something I wanted to do more, to something I need to do more and more because of the battles I’m fighting.

And the more I pray, the more I want it to be my life.

Make my life a prayer to you,
I wanna do what you want me to,
No empty words and no white lies,
No token prayers, no compromise,
I wanna shine the light you gave,
Through your son you sent to save us,
From ourselves and our despair,
It comforts me to know you’re really there…

Well I wanna thank you now,
For being patient with me,
Oh it’s so hard to see,
When my eyes are on me,
I guess I’ll have to trust,
And just believe what you say,
Oh you’re coming again,
Coming to take me away.

Every line of this song impacts on my life, and encourages me to live the way God wants me to. It’s confronting because it’s so hard to see, and yet provides so much hope that He’s coming to take me away.

I wanna die and let you give,
Your life to me so I might live,
And share the hope you gave me,
The love that set me free,
I wanna tell the world out there,
You’re not some fable or fairy tale,
That I’ve made up inside my head,
You’re God the son and you’ve risen from the dead…
